Michelangelo's Moses

The Narrative
This certified original work reinterprets Michelangelo's Moses using 19th-century Florentine academic techniques. Created in October 2018 by Agustín Rüdegar, it stands as a testament to rigorous observation and classical discipline.
The challenge was not just to copy a statue, but to translate the cold marble of Michelangelo into the warmth of charcoal. Every fold of the fabric, every strand of the beard, required a study of light and shadow that pushed my technical capabilities to the limit.
This work currently resides in a private collection in Bergen, Norway. It represents the culmination of my academic training in the sight-size method.
"It was difficult, but I think it was worth it. After six months of work, the stone became paper."
