The Resistance

The Resistance

A reflection on the creative block and the internal battle against 'The Resistance'. How abandoning creative thoughts for pure technique can betray one's path, and the necessary struggle to regain energy, defeat self-judgment, and return to the magic of creation.

By abandoning creative thoughts and wanting to delve deeper into technique, I betrayed everything I had been telling myself about which path to follow, causing resistance and blockages to reappear, making flow practically impossible due to the number of negative messages my mind sends me in the face of any challenge I set for myself.

Resistance is tough, it doesn't stop and it doesn't choose its times, it is always ready, at any moment, to try to destroy your creative process, it even encourages you to do any task, no matter how destructive, so that you don't do what you should, it points out all the defects and worsens your work, making you doubt everything possible all the time.

You have to beat it from the start, not fall into the same old games and say that things will be done tomorrow, we all know that tomorrow is never and that only now exists.

You can't expect the product to create itself, you can't wait to beat the resistance because every time we give up, it wins another battle and becomes stronger. Even as I write these words, it demands a distraction, sends a small message screaming at me to abandon this text and distract myself with some banality as always.

Now it's time to regain energy, to return to the creative path without receiving self-judgments, without shutting down and doing it for oneself and for oneself. Enjoy the journey but working hard and not granting more licenses under any excuse that the resistance is capable of creating for us.

Having the fantastic feeling of never wanting to stop, this is the moment where the resistance is almost defeated, it is never defeated because it always has something to say but the truth is that once inside the project and doing, at some point we manage to confuse it, silence it and enjoy that magic that we are looking for so much.

I think this is the step to turn a boy into a man, it is not only the resistance to being a better artist, but it encompasses everything we are, our commitment to ourselves and what we are willing to do.

Professionalize ourselves or continue to be those children who have fun killing time, that is the recommendation of the resistance for day to day. We are in charge of defeating it in the maximum number of battles possible.

It is a long process, but you must never stop feeling the hope that everything will turn out well and that you can continue to advance, never give up. You have to think about the person you are and the one you want to be, in this step only the resistance is our enemy and I know that I am willing to defeat it.

You have to know how to recognize what things we have to stop doing because they make us feel empty when we finish doing them, those are the things that the resistance constantly proposes to us.

You have to get rid of vices with the idea of doing something productive in those moments, if your head asks for a distraction, give it something else. If your head asks you to stop writing and look for a video on YouTube, you have to keep writing. If you are drawing and it tells you that you are terrible, to stop doing it because you will be happier doing something else, you have to keep drawing.

If it doesn't even let you start because you are scared enough not to dare to do it, that's when you have to do it the most, here is the answer you are looking for, on the other side of that fear is the path along which you must continue to advance, the door that must be opened.

You must not be afraid, you just have to risk and trust that everything will turn out well, you can only achieve this by doing, by defeating the resistance, not tomorrow, today.
